McRaven Home Built in 1796 and expanded twice (1836 & 1839), the McRaven Home has seen it's share of violent history. The house was a stop on the Trail of Tears, when at Andrew Jackson's behest, Indians were herded like cattle towards reservations in Oklahoma, many dying along the way. The area in the immediate vicinity of the house was the site of a violent Civil War battle, the Siege of Vicksburg, and the back yard served as Civil War Hospital. Many of the dead from these events are buried within the grounds around the house. Several owners of the house have also met their makers in the house and yard here. No wonder, then, that there are so many verified sightings at the McRaven House. This haunting has been written up in the national press and has been investigated by experienced ghost hunters, who have been quite successful in capturing photos, temperature fluctuations, and other spirit energies here. As such, this is a must see if you find yourself in the Vicksburg, Mississippi area - and bring your camera with plenty of film! McRaven House is open for tours daily, including Sundays. The address is 1445 Harrison Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Phone - 601-636-1663.
