Stepp Cemetery
Of all the hauntings in Indiana, Stepp Cemetery is surely one of the most intriguing, not to mention one of the most famous.  Located in The Morgan-Monroe State Forest. this cemetery is very isolated, making a visit there quite spooky, even in daylight.    The old cemetery is gated, and one has to get out of the car and walk to get to the few graves left, which are crumbling from age and neglect.

Stories about who or what is haunting this cemetery vary, but virtually all consist of a woman in black grieving over a loved one buried in the cemetery.  There is an old tree stump that looks somewhat like a chair where the woman is most often seen, but reports also describe the sounds of a woman crying in the vicinity.  Several reports portray a black figure rising out of the tree stump and turning towards witnesses, scaring them out of the graveyard.   Many visitors report "bad feelings" when approaching the graveyard, and sudden gusts of wind, temperature changes, and odd sounds occur fairly frequently.   Those with cameras often capture orbs and streaks, but nobody has managed to catch the specter of the lady in black yet to our knowledge.    Legend says that if you sit on the old stump, you will die within a year, so we wouldn't advise that.   But do bring good equipment, including voice recorders when you visit this cemetery, and let us know what happens!

We recommend that you arrive at Stepp Cemetery during daylight hours, just to familiarize yourself with the layout.  The cemetery is located about two miles inside the Morgan-Monroe State Forest via Old Highway 37.   The entrance is flanked by stone walls and an iron gate, and the cemetery is a few hundred feet via the dirt path inside the gate.
